Company Overview

Our Story
Tattoo Brewing Co. traces its roots to 1994, when Pony Express Brewing Co. was founded in Olathe, Kansas—home to the first production microbrewery in the state. At the time, Kansas laws had to be changed to allow small brewers to produce more than 5,000 barrels, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s brewing history. This was well before social media, websites, or digital archives—when brands were built by craftsmanship, reputation, and word of mouth.

The idea that would become Tattoo Brewing was born from that same pioneering spirit. In an era when tattoos were still considered rebellious, the brewery’s founder—then in his late 30s and preparing to get his first tattoo—created the original Tattoo Brewing concept. The first label, Rattlesnake Mag Pale Ale, was envisioned alongside plans for additional beers inspired by award-winning recipes, including Tornado Tantrum, Thunderbolt Nut Brown, Orange-Peel Honey Blonde, and Arrowhead Raspberry Red.

More than 25 years later, with no digital files or original artwork remaining—only a single labeled bottle from 1999—Tattoo Brewing has been reborn as an authentic, culture-driven brand. The founder now carries many tattoos and many stories, shaped by scars, experience, and time. Drawing on historic recipes and past accolades, Tattoo Brewing brings people from all walks of life together, regardless of background or beliefs, to honor freedom, resilience, and those who have sacrificed to protect them.

Culture
Tattoo culture is one of the largest and most enduring lifestyle communities in the United States. Nearly one-third of U.S. adults have tattoos, with the strongest concentration among ages 21 to 45—the same demographic that drives beverage sales. Veterans and active-duty military members represent one of the most tattooed communities in the country, where ink often symbolizes identity, pride, and brotherhood. This culture spans every region and ethnicity, unified by a shared value: loyalty to brands that genuinely reflect who they are. Tattoo Brewing is built for this community.

Demographics
Women now lead tattoo adoption, with nearly 45% of women ages 18–35 having at least one tattoo. Approximately 35% of men are tattooed, with the highest concentration between ages 25 and 45. Military veterans have tattoo participation rates exceeding 50%, reflecting a strong, values-driven identity. Tattoo culture is one of the oldest and most diverse lifestyle tribes globally, and the tattoo industry itself continues to be among the fastest-growing economic sectors in the United States.
